Mongolia
has a rich cultural and artistic tradition, a heritage that continues
to evolve in the context of the country’s unique and rapidly changing
society. The heart and soul of this remote land is revealed in these artworks.
Today, Mongolian contemporary art is colorful, rich and interesting with
a great variety of styles, techniques, subjects and motives. It reflects
the intellect and unique philosophy of nomadic people, and their history.
Mongol nomads, scattered in the highlands and steppes of a vast territory
in Central Asia, were at one time lords of half the known world and left
an enormous impression and lasting traces in the history and culture of
the world.
With the opening of Mongolia to democracy, there is unlimited talent and
artistic inspiration. Contemporary Mongolian art blends traditional and
new, that reveals Asian, European and modern influences. The themes are
varied, some more traditional, some more abstract, some more realistic
and some more expressive. However, virtually all Mongolian art reflects
a people closely attuned to the land, nature and horses, that is impossible
to separate them.
During the socialist regime, many Mongols went to study art in the finest
art schools and universities in Russia and other Eastern European countries.
Thus Mongols became acquainted with European art, came to possess the
techniques, styles and other art achievements in Europe.
As the colors of Mongolia are bright and vivid in Nature, so are the colors
of the palette of the Mongolian artists, and so are the diverse facets
of Mongolian contemporary art. |
